This ancient Japanese technique uses cotton fabric where students learn to pleat on a pole which forms a resist when over-dyed. The patterns formed are a cooperation of order and chaos. Students can purchase a 5-color Winsor Newton Cotman (8ml tubes) of Cad Red, Cobalt Blue, Cad Yellow, Burnt Sienna and Indigo for $15.00, or bring their own. Bring whatever watercolor brushes you have, the class will use a sable round #8, round #2 and a flat ½”, and a fan brush. Bring whatever you have, but natural sable is best, synthetic is worse.
