Constitution

ARTICLE I. – NAME

This organization shall be known as the Alaska Art Education Association, a unified state association with the National Art Education Association.

ARTICLE II. – PURPOSE

The purpose of the organization shall be the improvement and advancement of Art Education in the schools and through other educational organizations of the state.

ARTICLE III. – MEMBERSHIP

Individuals interested or engaged in activities concerned with or
related to art education are eligible for membership.

ARTICLE IV. – GOVERNMENT

Section 1. Officers. The offices of this association shall be President, President-Elect, Secretary and Treasurer. These officers shall be elected by the membership from among its members. The President-Elect automatically moves into the position of President.

Section 2. Executive Council. The Executive Council shall be comprised of the President, President-Elect, the immediate Past President, Secretary, Treasurer, and the NAEA State Delegate. (The State Delegate shall be elected by the general membership.) This council shall act on matters of urgency.

Section 3. Office Term. The terms of office of President, President-Elect, Secretary, Treasure and NAEA States Delegate shall be for two year.

ARTICLE V. – ELECTIONS

Nominations shall be made by the Nominating Committee. The slate of candidates shall be voted upon by members during the fall conference. Election shall be by simple majority. The new officers will be announced and take office during the annual Association Conference in October.

ARTICLE VI – COMMITTEES

Section 1. Conference Committee: Sectionals, Demonstrations and Art Product Exhibits. The Executive Council shall appoint a chairperson and committee for organizing sectionals, demonstrations and art product exhibits at the Annual Meeting.

Section 2. Membership Committee: The Executive Council shall appoint a Membership Committee.

Section 3. Nomination Committee: The Executive Council shall appoint a committee to nominate people to run for office.

Section 4. Newsletter Committee: The Executive Council shall appoint a committee for publication of a newsletter.

Section 5. Youth Art Month Committee: the Executive Council shall appoint a committee to plan and organize special Youth Art Month activities and publicity.

Section 6. Awards Committee: The Executive Council shall appoint an awards chairperson to coordinate State, Pacific Region and National membership awards and recognition’s.

Section 7. Parliamentarian: The Executive Council shall appoint a parliamentarian to assist with orderly conduct of Association meetings.

Section 8. Historian: The Executive Council shall appoint a historian for the purpose of recording significant Association’s activities, events and records for each year.

ARTICLE VII – AMENDMENTS

Amendments to this Constitution may be made at an official business meeting of the Alaska Art Education Association by a majority vote of members present, provided members have been informed of the proposed amendments thirty days prior to the voting date. If deemed necessary by the Executive Council, voting on amendments may be conducted by mail; a majority Vote of the members responding shall constitute official action.

ARTICLE VIII – RULES OF ORDER

Robert’s Rules of Order shall be the authority on all questions of procedure not otherwise covered in the Association’s Constitution and By-Laws. Constitution Revisions 10-13-02
